If you are looking for the authentic family run Cretan taverna on a beach this is it. We offer exceptional seclusion, lots of our own produce including organic milk, yoghurt, cheese, honey, fish, fruit, vegetables and olive oil as well as a very friendly welcome. Right on Likkos beach in a sheltered, car-free bay we are a 10 minute boat ride around the headland from Loutro. Our taverna provides an excellent base from which to explore the beatiful coast line and beaches and the walking trails along coast, in the famous Cretan gorges nearby and into the mountains behind. The local area is a haven for wildlife including rare birds and the spectacular Cretan flowers.
We share Likos Bay with just one other taverna and the rest is just fields of sheep and goats, olive groves and wild flowers going down to the sea. We have 16 rooms with a variety of doubles, singles, twins, triples and one which has a double and two single beds ideal for a family. All of the rooms face the sea, have balconies and en suite shower with hot solar heated water and a loo. So you sleep to the sound of the lapping waves. Eight of the rooms have air conditioning. Prices for the rooms range from 25 Euros to 45 Euros a night.
Breakfast is between 5 Euros and 10 Euros depending on what you would like, is served when you want it and includes our own milk, yoghurt, honey, fruit and other produce in season. Other meals are available whenever you want them. As well as the food you generally find in Crete we serve our own organic, outdoor reared lamb and goat meat, sheep and goat milk products including soft Mizithra cheese, fruit, vegetables and our own hand caught local fish. We have local organic wine.
akrogiali002The shops, tavernas and ferry connections at Loutro are 20 minutes walk away over the headland. There are many beautiful coastal, mountain and gorge walks that start right from our taverna. We have detailed local walking maps and books on Cretan flowers, birds etc that you are welcome to borrow. The entrance to the Aradena Gorge is just 1km away at the beautiful Maramara beach. Unlike the Samaria Gorge (which is closed in the winter until May) Aradena is open all year round and can be walked in a day's circular walk from us taking in the upland village of Anopoly. You can also take ferries along the coast to explore other gorges, coastal and mountain areas. Or of course you can just laze on the beach.
From spring until autumn when regular ferries run between Hora Sfakia and Loutro we will come and collect you in our boat from Loutro. Just let us know by text or e mail when you are arriving. Out of season, when the ferries are not running or are very irregular you can get the bus from Hania to Hora Sfakia and stay on it until the end of its journey in Anopoly and we will collect you with our pick up from there.
